GEOLOGY

Geologicaly speaking, starting at it's glacier's end, the Trient valley can be read like a classbook illustrating how minerals are broken down and combine with humus to form what we variously call " soil ", " dirt ", or " earth ".

On down through its rocky layers to deap in its numerous gorges, or bent and folded in its upthrust cliffs, the mountain itself is a history book that tells of tectonics and crustal formations, while also presenting several un-usual features, -strong telluric currents,- perhaps due to a high iron ore content, which are among the lesser understood phenomenons.

Marmites dot falls and torrents, and dinosaure prints walk up what is now a vertical cliff poised at 2400 meters (approx. 7200 feet).

We are in the alps, but only a 30 min commute from the pre-alps, and less than an hour from the Jura mountains, so a wide range of geological interests can also be easily pursued on an individual level, from fossil hunting to visiting underground rivers and grottos or sampling the powers beneath at one of the thermal bath stations nearby.
